Keeping you safe: COVID-19 Update

The health and safety of family and friends visiting Ridley Funeral Home are our top priorities. We train extensively for these types of scenarios as part of our overall emergency response.

We are closely monitoring reports from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as other agencies around the world to ensure we are aware of, and aligned with, guidelines regarding public gatherings.

Below are the directives we have received from the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) and we are required to follow.

Registrar’s Directive:

10 MAX or LESS at funerals, visitations

March 28, 2020 – The maximum number of people who can attend a funeral or visitation in one room at one time is 10 or fewer.

As of tonight, March 28, in keeping with the Premier’s order –
Funerals, visitations, celebrations and any other gatherings are limited to 10 or fewer people.

This number will be lower if the room can not allow people to maintain physical distancing of at least two metres (six feet) apart from each other at all times, to a maximum of 10 people in one room.

Even if you have unlimited space, or are outside, the maximum is 10.
The number does not include funeral staff.

Follow this law strictly.

Stay vigilant folks. We are ready…together with you to provide the best, safe bereavement services to Ontario families.

-Carey Smith, CEO/Registrar, BAO

We want you to feel confident in the actions we are taking on your behalf.

Although our daily cleanliness and hygiene practices already exceed Health Canada’s standards, we’ve taken steps to help ensure both you and our employees are protected from the risk of infection and communicable diseases.

Here’s what we are doing to keep you safe.

  • We have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting our public areas, especially high-touch items such as doorknobs, bathroom faucets, pews and counters.

  • All of our bathrooms are equipped with disinfecting hand soap and cleaned hourly, especially before, during and after a service.

  • Additional hand sanitizer has been placed throughout the funeral home.

  • In the unlikely event an employee exhibits cold or flu-like symptoms, staff will self-quarantine at home for at least 14 days.

  • In an effort to minimize direct contact, we ask that you consider avoiding shaking hands or close physical contact with guests and members of the family you are here to visit.

  • We request that guests who are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, cough, shortness of breath) or have traveled internationally or been in contact with someone who’s travelled overseas recently, refrain from visiting the funeral home at this time.

We sincerely hope these actions give you confidence as you visit our funeral home. If you have any question or concerns, please feel free to contact our president Brad Jones at 416-259-3705 or reach out by email at BradJones@ridleyfuneralhome.com
