He was in his 86th year. Loving husband to Eleanor for 60 years. Much loved Dad to Alan (Diane), Sharon (Geoff) and Wendy (Paul). Proud Grandpa of Darren (Leah), Kevin (Stacie), Andrea (Ryan), Carly, Lindsay, Kristi, Shannon and Brent. Great Grandpa to Mya and Sam. Loving Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jim will be remembered by his brother Art ( Joan), Albert and his late wife Alice, sisters in-law Barbara, Joan and Betty and brother in law Richard ( Lois), predeceased by sister Joyce and brothers in law Tom, John and George and sisters in law Norma and Marjorie. During World War II Jim served from 1942 to 1945 as a private in the Canadian Infantry Corp in Canada, France and Germany. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Jim spent 41 years of his working life as a carman welder with the CNR and was the carman union representative for many years. He finished his career in 1988 as a courier with GO Transit. He was a life long learner and beautiful skater. Woodworking was his favourite past-time and he made many gifts of his handcrafted pieces. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all staff and caregivers at Lakeshore Lodge on 2 South and 2 North who supported Jim and his family throughout his lengthy journey with Alzheimer's. Friends and family will be received at the Ridley Funeral Home 3080 Lakeshore Boulevard West, 416-259-3705, on Thursday August 14, 2008 from 3-5 P.M. and 7-9 P.M. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday August 15 at 3 p.m. Followed by cremation. The family would appreciate a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in lieu of flowers.
