Doris Helen Smylski (nee Puchalski)

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Peter Smylski for 60 years. Born in Cobalt, Ontario, daughter of the late Nicholas and Vaselina Puchalski. Loving mother of Thomas, Peter (Oksana), Doris Ann (Myron Masnyk) and Nadia (Don Lawrence) and loving Baba of Anton and Tereza. Dear sister-in-law to Bernice and Walter Lemiski and Helen Smith. Loving auntie of many nieces and nephews and dearest cousin of Joan and Gerald Fedak. Mother was a kind, empathetic and gracious lady who always welcomed family and friends to the family home or to the farm in Winona (Lochside). She loved playing her piano, loved her gardens and her sewing. While in Hamilton, she taught Sunday school for many years, golfed and curled. Always supportive of her husband’s professional pursuits in Oral Surgery and volunteer activities, together they hosted numerous picnics for the Hamilton and Niagara Dental Association. In Toronto, Mom was an active volunteer at the AGO, and a long-time supporter of the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (Ontario Branch) and many other ladies organizations. She was a great wife, great mom – we’ll miss her. Special thanks to Anna Pytel and the Team 8 nurses from Care Partners for assisting mom these past few years. Friends will be received at the Ridley Funeral Home, 3080 Lake Shore Blvd. W. (between Islington and Kipling Aves., at 14th St., 416-259-3705) on Monday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. Panakhyda Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Orthodox Rite of Funeral will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church (3338 Lake Shore Blvd. W.).
